Puppy Kindergarten:
Our Puppy Kindergarten class is for those pups ages 8wks through 5months.
We highly recommend that you begin training your puppy as soon as you bring them
home. By starting off on the right foot, you can prevent poor behavior
before it ever begins. Puppies as young as 8 weeks of age will do very
well in our Puppy Kindergarten course.
The course meets 1 hr each week for 6 consecutive weeks. Each week we
focus on building a solid basic manners foundation with the basics of sit, down,
stay, come, loose leash walking and leave it being taught as well as give the pups a time to learn
about dog behavior from each other with off leash socialization. The
course will also cover important items for the human half of the pair discussing
crate/house training, bite inhibition and teething, appropriate toys, dogs and
children, dogs and the vet or groomer, and much more. Please bring your
dog to class on a 4' or 6' leash, NO retractable or flexi leashes allowed.
Beyond Puppy Kindergarten:
This course is for puppies age 5months to 10 months old. It will pick up
where Puppy Kindergarten left off while still having time for off leash
socialization time. We will work on building duration and distance on
stays, more reliability with basic behaviors, teach you how to 'get off the
treats', and work on house manners such as jumping up on guests, counter
surfing, and other unwanted adolescent behaviors. Classes meet 1hr each
week for 6 consecutive weeks. Please bring your dog to class on a 4' or 6'
leash, NO retractable or flexi leashes allowed.
Adult Manners 1:
Our Adult Manners 1 class is for any dog over 10 months of age. This
includes dogs who have taken a manners or basic obedience class before and dogs
who have never been in a class situation. We will work on teaching a
variety of basic behaviors that every well trained house dog should have.
Depending on class dynamics there may also be off leash supervised socialization
time. Classes meet 1hr each week for 6 consecutive weeks. Please
bring your dog to class on a 4' or 6' leash, NO retractable or flexi leashes
allowed.
If you are having a behavior issue with your adult dog, please speak with
Lisa
about arranging private lessons to address the problem before starting group
classes. Group classes are generally a too over stimulating and active
environment for dogs with behavior problems to safely learn in without prior
foundational training in a less stimulating home environment. Behavior
problems include- dog reactivity, people reactivity, resource guarding, fear
aggression, overt aggression, growling, biting, barking aggressively, etc.
CGC Prep Class:
Our CGC Prep Class (or Canine Good Citizen Prep Class) is a course for dogs
who have successfully completed either our Beyond Puppy Kindergarten Class or
our Adult Manners 1 Class. This course will be a very fast paced course,
working each of the 1st 5 weeks to train to pass the
AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluation
on the 6th week. We will be working on the 10 skills of the CGC Evaluation
which include- greeting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting,
accepting grooming, walking appropriately on lead, walking though a crowd,
walking past another unknown dog, showing that your dog knows the basic
obedience skills of 'sit', 'down', 'stay' and 'come', ignoring distractions and
being left with a stranger for a few minutes while the handler goes out of
sight. Teams must complete the test on a buckle collar and 6' leash and with no food or
toy rewards (you are allowed to praise and talk to your dog during the
evaluation). The test is administered by an approved AKC Evaluator and
dogs that pass the Pass/Fail test will be awarded a certificate through the
American Kennel Club.
Supervised Socialization Play Groups:
R+ offers Supervised Socialization Play Groups to puppies over age 5 months
through adult dogs. In our Supervised Socialization Play Groups one of our
highly trained dog trainers who is experienced in reading the minute changes and
nuances of dog behavior is present and supervising the entire play group period
in order to ensure that all dogs in the group are playing appropriately and
safely.
The R+
staff highly recommends owners choose a school sponsored Supervised Play Group
as opposed to the dog park for a number of safety reasons. At a Supervised Play
Group you know the health status of all dogs present, helpfully ensuring that
your dog or puppy doesn’t pick up any communicable diseases. And at a
Supervised Play Group you also know that there is a highly qualified trainer,
experienced in reading minute changes in dog body language, ready to step in
before an altercation arises.
We split our groups into age appropriate sections to keep things as low
stress and fun for the dogs as possible. To avoid puppies getting over
stimulated our Play Groups are 40 minutes in length. Cost for Play Groups
is $10 per week per dog.
We also have a few basic rules to ensure that Play Groups run as calmly and
safely as possible:
1. Pre-registration is required for Play Group
attendance.
2. Owners are required to stay with their dog for the entire Play
Group period.
3. Maximum 2 dogs per owner per week.
4. Dogs must be friendly
with other dogs and people. Please no reactive dogs.
5. Dogs must be brought
to Play Group on a 4' or 6' leash, NO retractable or flexi leashes allowed.
6. Instructor reserves the right to dismiss any dog from any
play group for inappropriate play style or actions.
Play
Groups are NOT a training class, if you are having training related problems
with your dog or puppy or any behavior issues please sign up to take a group
class prior to coming to play groups or speak with Lisa about scheduling a
private lesson.
